Eye Banking a Boon in Eye Health Care Services and Vision Restoration and Corneal Tattooing for Aesthetic Purposes

Eye donation and eye banking are a boon in eye health care services for visual rehabilitation and corneal tattooing aesthetic purpose in post-trauma corneal opacities.
A young female reported to our hospital with a complaint of corneal opacity and difficulty in closing her left eye. On examination, she was diagnosed with a “Corneal scar with an Inadvertent bleb”. The patient reported a history of corneoscleral injury for more than four years. A slit lamp examination showed a corneal scar with a micro leak at the inferotemporal scleral region.
This is a case of a young female who was diagnosed with Inadvertent Bleb in her left eye due to a micro leak in the inferior scleral region (Figure 1). We explored the whole globe and found a micro leak that created an Inadvertent Bleb. After the separation of the conjunctiva, we grafted a piece of preserved sclera at the leaking site and covered it with conjunctiva. For the corneal scar, we performed tattooing to colour the white scar. Post-operative results were uneventful and the patient was very satisfied with her new look (Figure 2).

Routine equipment like a slit lamp, operating microscope, and a tattooing machine with surgical instruments set for corneal transplantation. We explored the globe and found a micro leak in the inferior scleral region. We did a scleral patch graft [1] with corneal tattooing to cover up the corneal opacity.
Surgical interventions gave satisfactory results in terms of a good contour of the eye, resolved Inadvertent bleb, and white scar covered with tattoo ink [2]. We got back the cosmetic appearance of the patient.
The scleral patch graft procedure is very helpful in trauma cases especially where there is tissue loss and corneal tattooing was also an alternative treatment to cover up the corneal opacities to restore the aesthetic appearance in post-trauma corneal scars.
